March Favorites: Tacos, Wine Delivery, and Spring Fashion For All Sizes

It’s springtime in Tennessee – the season of sipping rosé and eating tacos on the patio in your favorite pair of shorts. Want that vision to be your reality? The MCG staff has you covered with this timely list of monthly favorites.

1. WineInsiders…cases of hand-picked wine delivered to your doorstep.

“My monthly fave is WineInsiders,” said marketing intern Nicholas Heim. “They run amazing deals on Groupon – $55 for 12 bottles, plus a $25 gift card – and they deliver right to your door!”

2. Tako Taco…the best restaurant patio in Knoxville.

Designer Katie Truppo has discovered the best taqueria in town. “I’ve spent a lot of time at Tako Taco this month. It’s right next to the Mill & Mine and has some of the best food I’ve had in Knoxville,” she said. “The menu is a mix of Mexican and Asian fusion, combining amazing flavors made with local ingredients. It’s very reasonably priced, and their cocktails are top-notch. Find me on their patio all summer long.”

3. Rosegal and ASOS…online shopping for everyone.

Web developer Lindsay Loveday can’t stop shopping on Rosegal. “It’s very similar to ASOS (which happens to be designer Katie Truppo’s favorite place to shop online), but focuses on plus-size fashion, which is difficult to find at most online stores,” she said. “They have fantastic clothes at fantastic prices.”

4. Shrill…an empowering memoir adaptation

“I spent Friday night binge-ing the first season of Shrill on Hulu and frankly, I may watch it all again next weekend,” said content strategist Hanna Lustig. “It was that good. Starring SNL’s Aidy Bryant, Shrill is a TV adaptation of writer Lindy West’s memoir about finding her voice and coming into her power as a body positive feminist. It’s funny, it’s endearing, and it’s painfully frank about what it’s like grow up in a society that constantly tries to undermine women.”

5. Ring…a smart way to keep your home safe.

“My monthly fave is my Ring,” said marketing intern Annie O’Brien. “After an unfortunate break-in at my house, I decided to invest in the Ring Video Doorbell. The Ring is super helpful for when I’m not home or out of town, because I get instant alerts to my phone when there is someone is at my front door. I can also communicate with people at the door though the app on my phone. The Ring helps me to ‘always be home’, even when I’m not.”

6. The Act…the latest true crime series you need to see.

The Act follows the disturbing case of Gypsy Rose Blanchard and her mother, Dee Dee, who suffers from Munchausen by proxy,” said marketing intern Nicole Maestri. “After watching the 20/20 special and HBO’s true-crime documentary Mommy Dead and Dearest, my roommates and I have developed a weird obsession with the case and have been counting down the days for the release ever since. From the beginning, the Hulu series does not hide that the story ends badly, but forces viewers to see Dee Dee’s side of the story too. Sadly, this isn’t a series you can binge-watch, since Hulu airs a new episode every Wednesday. But I will be patiently waiting.”

7. The OA…an addictive mystery thriller series.

“My monthly fave is The OA: Part 2 that was just released on Netflix,” said graphic design intern Emily Breeden. “It is a continuation of the first season, which was originally released in December 2016. I haven’t finished it yet, but so far, the new season is a great follow-up to the first.”

8. YouTube TV… the newest addition to live streaming space.

Our principal, Chuck Morris, is ecstatic to have cut the cable cord forever. For $40 per month, YouTube TV offers the same channel selection as cable, alongside its original crowd-sourced content. All it takes is the Youtube app or a SmartTV to get started– and chances are, you already have both. “From $180 a month for cable to YouTube TV now, we’re never going back,” Chuck adds.
