Hops for Homes: VMC benefit set for June 11

KNOXVILLE—Turning good brews into a good cause, Brixx West Hills is hosting Hops for Homes, a benefit for the Volunteer Ministry Center, beginning at 6 p.m. June 11.

For $50, patrons can fill up on food and beverages from three breweries: Brooklyn Brewery, New Belgium Brewing and Yazoo Brewing Company. Tickets for the event are available at Brixx Pizza, the Volunteer Ministry Center and at the VMC website, www.vmcinc.org. The event will also feature a very special silent auction.

“VMC is so grateful to Brixx Pizza for their help in combating homelessness in our community,” Ginny Weatherstone, VMC chief executive officer, said. “Their generosity and efforts really will help people work their way off of the streets and into dignified homes of their own. Homelessness is a community problem; Brixx Pizza is demonstrating that this community cares!”

H.P. Patel, owner of Brixx Pizza, said he is looking forward to partnering with VMC. “We are very excited about this great cause,” he said. “VMC is a worthwhile organization that needs help from our community, and Brixx is very proud to support them and the Hops For Homes benefit. Homelessness is a major issue and the community is very important to Brixx.”

For those who can’t make it to the evening event, Brixx is offering an alternative way to help end homelessness. Mention VMC when ordering a pizza from June 11 to June 17 and $3 will be donated to the cause.

The Volunteer Ministry Center is a nonprofit, interfaith agency serving the poor and homeless of Knoxville. Its mission is to facilitate permanent supportive housing for those who are homeless and to provide services to prevent homelessness. VMC was founded in 1987 by a network of downtown churches to fill a gap left by the traditional missions, which did not offer accommodations during the day. In 2009, VMC relocated to its new building at 511 North Broadway. In 2010, the organization opened Minvilla Manor, a 57-unit permanent supportive housing development. For more information on the Volunteer Ministry Center, visit www.vmcinc.org.

Founded in 1998 in Charlotte, NC by Eric Horsley, Brixx Wood Fired Pizza is a fun, friendly neighborhood restaurant that serves gourmet brick-oven pizzas. Brixx also offers signature sandwiches, pastas, salads and desserts. Dough is made fresh daily, not frozen, and Brixx even makes its own mozzarella. Brixx features 14 wines by the glass and 24 handcrafted beers on tap. The company has multiple locations in North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. In Knoxville, Brixx Wood Fired Pizza is managed by David Rentschler and operates two locations: one at West Hills near West Town Mall and one at Turkey Creek.
