Morris Creative Group Partners with Second Harvest to Help Fight Hunger

Knoxville, TN – Morris Creative Group is proud to announce the launch of its virtual food drive web application for Second Harvest of East Tennessee. The application aims to replace the outdated system of collecting food donations in large barrels by making it possible for donors to contribute online. This customizable platform will allow Second Harvest and other food banks all around the country to organize and promote virtual food drives.

Setting up and donating to a virtual food drive is quick and easy. Users give money online for specific food items, which Second Harvest then uses to buy in bulk from suppliers, stretching donations even further. Liz Hoover, Senior Designer at Morris Creative Group said, “From admin to starting a drive to donating, we were aiming for the leanest and simplest user experience possible on the virtual food drive.”

Rising collection costs of donations are interfering with the effectiveness of the food drives that food banks have traditionally run. Mark Aranda, Food Drive Coordinator for Second Harvest stated, “Every time I deliver barrels to someone who wants to do a food drive and go back to pick them up, it costs Second Harvest $70. If it’s one barrel of food or less, Second Harvest actually loses money.” By eliminating these costs for gas and labor, more money is made available to provide food to those who need it.

Second Harvest is launching the virtual food drive application with its own food drive called “Food Fight 2015,” which will replace the food bank’s annual High School Football Challenge. This year’s event will run from November 2nd through the 25th. Instead of matching schools up head-to-head, participating schools will compete against all others in Food Fight. To encourage participation, the three schools that raise the most will receive a monetary prize to go toward the students’ needs.
